Teresa Collett is a law professor at the University of St. Thomas, a wife and mother of three, an author, lecturer, and advocate. Collett is a fiscal and social conservative, leading the fight in the Fourth District for sound government policies that will improve the lives of Minnesotans and all Americans. Collett is running on a platform of:
A more limited government Fiscal responsibility, which includes reducing the national debt and balancing the budget Encouraging job creation in the private sector through innovation and reform Collett and her husband Bob have been married for 31 years. They have three adult children, Rob, Christi, and Laura, and a son-in-law, Kevin. Collett is a successful attorney and law professor, having taught and lectured at law schools throughout the country, while also representing numerous public officials in the United States Supreme Court.
In running for Congress, Collett is trying to ensure a better and more responsive government for her children and grandchildren. Betty McCollum has been the 4th Congressional District’s representative for 10 years. In those 10 years, the federal deficit increased to more than 10% of the Gross Domestic Product. The unemployment rate is at 10%, and Collett is increasingly concerned about her students and other members of her community who can’t find jobs. While businesses are laying people off throughout the state, Congress refuses to focus on the economy.
As a strong fiscal and social conservative, Collett will work for to balance the federal budget and reduce spending. She support limits on government power and will fight to create economic opportunities for businesses and individuals.
Re: You are a tool in the literal sense of the term.
Rep. McCollum:
When Members of Congress compare health care protesters and spending dissidents to ‘mass-murderers,’ ‘militias,’ or ‘extremists’ – in the hopes of scoring political points is like pouring gas on the fire of repression.
The Members of the House, Democrats and Republicans – have a duty and an obligation to end the dangerous name-calling that can only inspire the extremist media and your not-very-bright supporters who keep crashing planes into buildings, shooting professors, and beating people up in the streets.
Put another way, Rep. McCollum – I’m not saying you’re a totalitarian. I’m just saying that real totalitarians need lots of people like you running society to make their job easier.
“Only last month a Fox News commentator, with Members of Congress next to him, rallied a Tea Party crowd by disparaging Congress and calling the crowd ‘all these Tim McVeigh wannabes here’ to the crowds cheers and applause.
Rep. McCollum: certainly you – a member of a party who’s leading intellectual light is Jon Stewart – can’t tell me you don’t “get” satire and sarcasm?
“When Members of Congress compare health care legislation to ‘government tyranny,’ ‘socialism,’ or ‘totalitarianism’ – in the hopes of scoring political points is like pouring gas on the fire of extremism.
“The Members of this House Democrats and Republicans – have a duty and an obligation to end the dangerous name-calling that can only inspire the extremist militias and phony patriots.
“In the most free, prosperous and greatest democracy on earth it is time to return to a civil, decent debate of public policy.
“I don’t want another ‘Oklahoma City’ to ever take place again.
Dear Representative Idiot. You are comparing protesters to mass-murderers. When it comes to civil debate, you are the problem.
Civil debate will return to Washington when you are chased from office.
And lest you and your idiot enablers in the local leftymedia are still trolling looking for more “extremists”, I mean “chased from office this November”.
Saturday delegates and alternates from across the Fourth Congressional District gathered to select our candidate to run against Betty McCollum. Teresa Collett was endorsed on the first ballot. We are confident that the Republican message of smaller government, better jobs, and real health care reform will resonate with voters throughout the District.
As chair of the District Beverly Aplikowski said,“This is the year that we can win the 4th Congressional seat if we all work hard to bring our message to voters of the Fourth District."
"As our candidate, Teresa has said. 'Unemployment does not know political affiliation, and bankruptcy affects people regardless of party loyalty.' We are all suffering in this economy, and we are the Party offering real solutions. I urge you to go to Teresa's website at www.CollettforCongress.com and volunteer and donate. We can win in 2010!”
THE MN LEGISLATION: Three days before the U.S. House voted to pass ObamaCare, Rep. Tom Huntley (D-Duluth) introduced a bill to conform Minnesota law to ObamaCare. The day before ObamaCare was signed into law, Senator Ann Lynch (D-Rochester) did the same. The Minnesota bill would be even worse than ObamaCare! Hard to imagine, I know.
EVEN WORSE: The bill not only requires Minnesota to conform to the federal bill, it moves the date of implementation and the individual mandate from 2014 to January 1, 2012. It adds a more restrictive individual mandate to purchase health insurance (no exceptions), regional payment reform for Medicare (think Hillary's regional alliances doing cost containment through care restrictions) the "public option" (single-payer plan rejected by the U.S. Senate), and a state "health insurance exchange" (bureaucracy to sell insurance and track insurance status) by 2012.
OBAMACARE SUPPORTERS GATHERING PETITIONS: Two days ago we put our petition against the bill online to see who noticed. The freedom-minded have found it, but it seems someone on the pro-ObamaCare side may have as well. Yesterday, a CCHC supporter had someone from a progressive organization at his door seeking signatures on a petition asking Governor Pawlenty not to block ObamaCare.
HELP PAWLENTY SAY NO: Let's give Governor Tim Pawlenty all the help we can!. The DFL will likely try to put this language in the middle of another bill making it more difficult for Governor Pawlenty to veto. Although the Governor was a strong supporter of the single-seller Exchange in 2007 and 2008 (we defeated it both years with your petitions, testifiers at hearings, insurance agents attending hearings and other organizations), we suspect that he will be pleased to get our support to stop this bill this year.
The CCHC petition is online in a "click and send" version and online in a pdf version to download, copy and distribute.
We want to deliver thousands of petitions to Governor Pawlenty as soon as possible. Please sign one and get others to sign it as well!

Betty KNEW pre-existing conditions in kids was not covered and she voted for Obamacare anyway. Betty KNEW of the tax increases and the heavy burden placed on businesses, small and large before she voted for this legislation....yet she still voted yes.
Today John Deere announced their companies would see costs of $150 million thanks to Obamacare. Caterpillar announced costs of $100 million now that the ink on Obamacare has dried. The higher costs (and lower productivity) means not only do the businesses have a higher cost of doing business but consumers will also see higher prices. This translates into less money for these companies to expand, hire or retain employees and lower wages.
Betty KNEW of the new tax on medical device makers in MN, almost $20 billion, that will not only harm MN companies but will be passed on directly to sick and ill consumers.
Betty knew of these issues and many more yet she still voted yes. Let's vote no on Betty!
On Sunday the House passed this bill that would overhaul the nation's health insurance system and require most individuals to buy health insurance by 2014. The President is expected to sign the legislation into law on Tuesday.
The House also passed this bill that would make changes to the health care overhaul measure they just passed and revise student loan procedures. The bill now goes to the Senate.
